Almond & Cranberry Cream Cheese Squares

Here’s a modified popular Crescent Roll recipe that I took to weekly quilting group that’s part of a special church community in Fayette County that make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. They piece, pin, tie, and sew  “one of a kind” creations, all from donated fabrics. It is an effort of love, time and talents.

Everyone takes a ten o’clock “break” and enjoys fellowship and food. This was easy and delicious. Continue reading

Streusel Coffee Cake

Everyone in our family loves Streusel Coffee Cake or “Kuchen” made for several generations by our mothers and grandmothers.

My sister LInda brought this version to our last family reunion and got great reviews…We are a tough crowd to impress…  Success… One cousin asked for the recipe immediately to bake for her Aunt’s birthday  a few days later….

This recipes makes the streusel first and chills in refrigerator while preparing the Cool Rise Sweet Dough.

The Cake is made ahead and baked the following day.

“Icing in the Cake” Bundt Cake

This  recipe puts the icing inside the cake!

It makes for a delicious, moist taste. I made it with a box of yellow cake mix, but found the original recipe using a German Chocolate cake mix. Either way, it’s quick and easy and no problem to whip it for any last minute need, or just to enjoy with coffee or a glass of milk.

Our family loves to eat these, and my sister Betty has mastered this recipe.  It’s a close tie to the classic Pecan Pie, and you can always cut the bars into whatever size works for your entertaining or family.

Betty’s Banana Nut Bread

My sister Betty is great at finding fail-proof recipes, that usually travel well. Since Texas is a BIG state, her creations have traveled all over the state to relatives and friends houses for holidays, birthdays, and family reunions.

She’s baked this Banana Bread recipe for years, and gives all credit to a little cookbook published back in the early 60’s by the Mt Olive Lutheran Ladies Aid in Houston, Texas. I don’t know it that officially makes it a “Retro” Recipe, but it’s a keeper.

Chocolate Stout Bundt Cake

I took this Bundt Cake to a fund-raiser “walk-in” coffee at the Presbyterian church and got great reviews until I mentioned it had Guinness and some were a little surprised. But noticed one of the special volunteers managed to get a few pieces to take with as we were dividing up the leftovers.

The combination of the Guinness and molasses make an extreme dense and intense flavor, paired with an awesome chocolate glaze.

Pumpkin Sage Bundt Cake

I have made this for several years for Thanksgiving instead of pumpkin pie (Not really a comparison since I love pumpkin pie) but love the sage, ginger, walnuts and texture of this savory fail proof bundt cake. I like it served plain, or, of course, with a little whipped cream on top.
