Heselmeyer BBQ Sauce

taste the best of the best … served for big crowds & family ….

Ingredients

  • 6 Tblsp margarine
  • 3/4 cup onion, ground
  • 3 quarts ketchup
  • 1 quart tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp Lousiana hot sauce
  • 1 1/2 Tblsp lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 Tblsp French’s mustard
  • 4 Tblsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 ounces vinegar
  • 2 tsps salt
  • 2 tsps black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 Tblsp brown sugar

Directions

  1. Grind onions and saute them with the margarine until onions are tender.
  2. Heat the ketchup and tomato sauce until warm. Add hot sauce, lemon juice, vinegar, salt and pepper next. (Rinse out cans with a little water and add to sauce mixtures.
  3. Mix the mustard, garlic powder, chili powder and brown sugar together with mixer and add to the sauce mixture.
  4. Stir constantly so sauce does not stick or burn. Continue cooking on low heat until heated well through.
  5. Add water if too thick.

Canning Sauce. Fill sterilize 1 pint jars up to 1/2 inch of top with hot bbq sauce. Close jars with heated lids with rings. Place in water bath for 15 minutes.

Yiled: 4 quarts
