Lesa’s Dewberry Cobbler

This recipe has gone through a few modifications since it was included in a church cookbook, St Anne’s Catholic Church, back in the past century (1990’s). Can use more fruit and less dough, and may need longer cooking time. And of course, it calls for dewberries, but any mix of berries or even fresh peaches will work.

Melt 1/2 cup butter in a round or oblong baking dish.

Mix together:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Cinnamon

Pour over butter, do not stir. Top with 3 cups of fresh berries or fresh sliced peaches, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.

Bake at 350 degrees, from 45 minutes to an an hour until the crust turns a golden brown.
