The Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 ½ cups butter
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup milk

Directions

  1. Grease and flour a tube or Bundt® pan. Do not preheat oven.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Break each egg separately in bowl, beat slightly and mix well into creamed sugar. Repeat. Add vanilla.
  5. Add flour mixture alternately with milk. Beat until smooth. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Place cake into cold oven, set the temperature to 350 degrees F and bake for 60 to 90 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean. (apprx 70 minutes)
