Mushroom Salisbury Steak
Back to basics with this simple version of a classic Salisbury Steak, only slightly lighter gravy.
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup onion, grated ( I used chopped scallions)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef (round or sirloin, if possible)
- cooking spray
- 1 Tbsp butter
- 8 ounces mushrooms, quartered
- 1/3 cup red wine (I used beef broth)
- 1 1/4 cups beef broth (can use low-sodium)
- 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar (I used apple cider)
Directions:
- Combine half of the onion, with pepper salt, garlic and beef. Shape into 4 patties.
- Heat skillets over medium-high heat. Coat with cooking spray. Add patties and cook for 3 minutes on each side or until browned. Remove from pan.
- Melt butter in pan. Add mushrooms and saute for 4 minutes.
- Stir in wine(or broth) and remaining onion and cook another 2 minutes.
- Add flour to a measuring cup and stir in broth, add to pan and bring to a boil. Cook 5 minutes or until thick.
- Add patties and vinegar to pan and cook another 2 minutes.
